Just a quick hike to cap off breakfast.
Deidre moved away from Chesley a couple of years ago so, when she was staying close (Thornbury) I wanted to squeeze as much into our morning together as possible. Let's just get one quick hike in and find a code.
The parking for this trail is right on Hwy 26 and like a lot of Bruce Trail parking, it's hard to spot. Just a couple spots for cars in the dirt with access to two trails visible when you've arrived.

We took the recommended counter clockwise path, starting with the main trail. It's instant awesome, right off the get go.
Nothing about this section is smooth, lots of creviced rocks, lots of roots, lots of up and down.
And little caves! We passed several, the first was just after a bridge. If Colton was with us, he would have climbed in for sure, but Deidre and I just checked it out from the bridge.

You can totally see why this area has a history of bush parties. That looks like the perfect cool spot to stash a 6 pack for later!
After hiking 10 - 15 minutes we met the Crevice Springs Side Trail. It felt a little more wild, a little less used, and was more strenuous.
The side trail quickly heads down the steep talus slope that has been reinforced as steps in some places. A talus slope is defined as the slope created by the mass of broken rock which accumulates at the base of the cliff face along the escarpment. The Bruce Trail spends all it's time going up and down the talus of the Niagara Escarpment.
This was going to require some "goating" that neither of us were prepared to do that morning.
We decided to head back along the main trail, and then visit the "Hole in the Wall" from the other end of the side trail.

The Hole in the Wall is this crevice. Pretty awesome! I especially love cedar trees that cling to rocks.
The clue given for this code is "You will have to search for the "Hole in the Wall." When you find it and investigate it in all directions, you will find what you seek. *
Yep. Got it!
This trail is so easy to get to and only a 1.5km loop, so I'll bring the kids back sometime when I'm feeling especially spry.
A must stop after this trail, Grandma Lambes for chocolate butter tarts.
Thanks for hitting the trail with me Deidre!
Total Distance Hiked : 1.5 km
