This trail was so nice, I did it twice!
Kirstin and I encountered some "challenges" on our attempt to find the the code.
We arrived at the recommended parking to find a gate across the path that said "trail closed" We are nothing if not nice, respectful people, so we decided to pay $3 to park inside the KOA and start our hike from there instead.
We didn't find the code. We didn't know exactly what we were looking for! How big was it, how hidden was it?!
It was a lovely hike all the same and we were happy to be out together after a summer with little socialization.

But I needed to finish what we started. So the family headed there after Pallisades.
There are two codes hidden on the Rock Springs Side Trail. We were hunting for the short trail code.
This time we did park on Side road 15, (there is room for 4 cars on the right) and walked in past the trail closed sign. Turns out that sign is for snowmobilers!
We walked for maybe 5 min on a road allowance, passed the Snowmobile clubhouse, all while following the main trail blazes as they then turn left into the bush.
The trail surface is smooth creviced rocks and sometimes narrow dirt path. It's craggy, but not difficult

We picked up the Rock Springs Side Trail and took it clockwise, staying to the right when we came to the place where it meets the KOA side trail.
We saw so many mushrooms on this hike in mid August. Also a fair few bugs about, it's been a wet enough month.
There is a spot in the middle of this hike where two blue trails meet in a y formation, keep to the right for the shorter trail loop.
Hopping over little cracks and crevices, we eventually meet up with the main trail and join it going to the right (south) until it comes back to the road allowance that leads to your vehicle
Because it is on the back of the KOA campground, I would imagine that it can get busy at times. It wasn't either time we were there though.

Regardless of where we started from, this hike took less than 40 minutes and was a really nice walk in the woods that you could do with small children.
And never you worry, we found the code on the second time around.
Right where the book said it would be!
