Sarawak Woods Hike #19

One last glorious day on an extended Thanksgiving weekend is perfect for heading into the Sarawak Woods just north of Owen Sound.

This piece of trail is the closest to Owen Sound in a line we've hiked that carries north into the Fossil Glen area next and then north all the way to the Porcupine Crevice.

There is road side parking on the Gordon Sutherland Parkway, and then you walk down this picture perfect road (Indian Acres Road) to enter the trail heading south.

Again, instead of making a loop by hiking back along the road, we hiked the same trail in and back. It is totally worth it! This is not a blue trail, this is white blazed main trail.

This trail clings to the face of the escarpment winding around and through mossy boulders. You can see a farmers field peeking through the trees at the base, and you're always looking up the rocky face. Try not to get dizzy, but don't miss anything!

The total amount of trail in the Sarawak Woods nature reserve is just over 1km, so a nice quick bath in the forest to fill your lungs with air.

There were a lot of leaves down, but still enough on the trees to feel like we were in a covered forest.

The footing is pretty uneven through out, and it's a lot of elevation changes throughout so, while not a difficult trail, certainly not easy! This would be a good trail to try out walking sticks.

Total distance 2km Time hiking 1 hour Tuesday, October 13, 2020
